Forrest Theriot designed this Laurel Canyon house in 1954 as his own residence, and Architectural Digest featured it. The bones are pure post and beam: wood framed walls of glass, clerestory windows, skylights, and garden views from nearly every room of the gated compound.

Conceived by Bob Audrey

The design firm Bob Audrey led the recent reimagining, and it is a restoration with a point of view rather than a flip. Restored beams carry custom rosewood and oak millwork, built ins upholstered in mohair, and a collection of 1960s Murano glass fixtures by Carlo Nason that gives the interiors a provenance of their own.
The kitchen is centered on a custom rosewood island under skylights, with Japanese tiled countertops, Bertazzoni appliances, and Waterworks fixtures. The baths carry the same hand of material: custom Japanese tile throughout, and a wood wrapped sunken tub in the primary finished in hand painted Italian bird tiles.

The pool sits in front of the house, and more than a third of an acre of newly landscaped grounds runs behind it in garden terraces, lawns, and tropical planting. A cactus garden Theriot planted in the 1960s has been preserved within the new landscape, and a separate pool house adds a built in office, a queen platform, and a fourth bath.
